"The government getting all of our names and addresses after reading our Area 51 tweets..."
If you woke up today and asked yourself "Why is Area 51 trending?", you are not alone... There's a reason why Twitter is overflowing with alien and Area 51 memes, and it's all thanks to a hilarious (yet potentially very dangerous) 'Storm Area 51' event that has gone viral.
The mysterious Area 51 in Nevada has been the centre of alien conspiracy theories for years and now, thanks to a event on Facebook called 'Storm Area 51, They Can't Stop All of Us', word of a mass trespassing at the military base has gone viral. At time of writing, over 400k people have signed up to say that they will be attending the storm taking place on Friday, 20 September 2019 at 03:00-06:00 PDT.

The event description reads: "We will all meet up at the Area 51 Alien Center tourist attraction and coordinate our entry. If we naruto run, we can move faster than their bullets. Lets see them aliens."

The whole thing is, of course, a joke set up by a shitposting Facebook group but news of the event soon made its way to Twitter where hundreds of people are now making hilarious memes about aliens, top secret classified information and what the government will do to them if they ever post up to the location in the middle of the Nevada desert.
One post on the page that details a hilarious "game plan" for the event includes an obvious disclaimer: "Hello US government, this is a joke, and I do not actually intend to go ahead with this plan. I'm not responsible if people decide to actually storm area 51."
In case you didn't know, the last person to trespass on a site near the hiiiiighly classified Area 51 was shot and killed on sight. Multiple people have wound up dead after attempting to enter the base. So, uhhh definitely don't do this. Stay inside and make memes instead.
Here are some of the funniest Area 51 memes that have gone viral since the internet discovered the Facebook event.
