If you're a true zodiac geek you'll know that when Mercury is in retrograde our lives become a bit of a disaster. A problem at work? A messy relationship comes to an end? Or a particularly bad hair day? Yep, blame it on the retrograde.

When does Mercury go into retrograde?

This year, Mercury is going into retrograde on July 7. It's the second retrograde of 2019 and will come to an end on July 31.

When this retrograde kicks off on July 7, it will move through two signs – Leo and Cancer. According to Cosmopolitan, that means we'll all be experiencing two different retrograde energies. Leo is all about being confident and having fun, while Cancer is a more sensitive and needy type of energy. It could mean we'll be really in touch with our emotions during this time and be more inclined to say exactly what's on our minds.

What does Mercury retrograde do and why is it bad?

Mercury turning retrograde has a bit of a reputation for ruining lives, but it's not always true… sometimes. When a planet goes retrograde it means that it looks like it's moving backward in the sky, Yahoo reports. Every planet goes retrograde at some point, but Mercury just gets the most stick.

Mercury's retrograde movement is said to cause complete chaos for lots of people. Mercury is the planet of information, technology and communication, so during a retrograde there can be issues in this area. Hello, Instagram and Facebook going down. Basically, if you smash your phone before July 31, it's totally not your fault…

Apparently, we're going to be feeling the effects of this retrograde a little more than usual this time round too because it's at the same time as a Mars retrograde. Oh, and two eclipses – can we catch a break, please?
