In the late nineties, Sam Gold (Jesse Eisenberg) has his whole life mapped out for him. Living in an ultra-orthodox Jewish community in Brooklyn, he's training to become a rabbi and has an arranged marriage on the horizon.
But obedient Sam yearns for something a little more exciting and less predictable in his life. Enter Jewish bad boy Yosef Zimmerman (Justin Bartha), who senses Sam's frustration and persuades him to transport 'medicine' from Amsterdam to New York for Israeli Jackie Solomon (Danny A. Abeckaser).
It's not long before our naive young hero is sucked in to the decidedly non-kosher world of the international drugs trade and falling for Jackie's girlfriend Rachel Apfel (Ari Graynor).
As Hasidic Jews smuggle thousands of ecstasy pills across borders without arousing suspicion, Sam finds himself deeply conflicted - which spells trouble for the whole operation.
