Rebecca Ferguson only recently said she was "in love" with her toy boy, One Direction's Zayn Malik, but now their relationship is over.

"im happy to say ive decided to be single," she tweeted.

"my children my family and my career are now my world!!"

When the couple announced they were dating earlier this year the news came as a surprise to fans as 18-year-old Zayn is seven years younger than Rebecca, but the reason behind the split is said to be so they can both focus on their careers.

Zayn hasn't commented on the break-up but has taken to Twitter to vent some emotions.

"Sometimes things happen that make you change the way you think, " he posted.

"it's the way you deal with that shows the true person you are..

"And remember nobody's feelings are more important than your own :/ so take time to love yourself ."
