They may have finished third in last year's X Factor but today Niall, Zayn, Liam, Harry and Louis proved they have what it takes to get to No. 1.

Last week the battle was between Pixie Lott and The Saturdays but One Direction ploughed through them to guarantee their spot at the top of the Vodafone Big Top 40 with their debut single, 'What Makes You Beautiful' after it was released on Sunday morning.

The boys performed the song on Saturday night on ITV1's Red Or Black and today have been travelling around the UK by helicopter dropping in to various CD signings.

The band took some time out from the screaming crowds in Manchester to speak to Rich + Kat who broke the news that they had scored their first No. 1.
