The 'Gotta Be You' star says the remark was made out of "banter".

One Direction star Niall Horan has issued an apology to his fans if they were offended by a video posted online today (6th July) which shows him swearing at a group of fans.

The 'What Makes You Beautiful' star took to his Twitter account this morning to speak about the incident insisting it was simply "banter" with fans he considered to be friends.

He tweeted: "really sorry if I caused any offence. It was just banter with fans who I think of more as mates."

"but I understand that it's not a word I should be using at all."

The video footage sees the singer greet a group of fans at Dublin airport and wishes one of them a happy birthday and makes a reference to Chelsea football club.

One of the waiting fans can be heard saying she "loves" the star who is wearing a white- t-shirt and baseball cap in the clip.

The band concluded their debut sold-out US arena tour earlier this month.
