The 'Marry The Night' singer is said to be scared of becoming like Princess Diana and being hounded by paparazzi and "crazies".
Lady Gaga reportedly sees herself as a pop version of Princess Diana and is planning to release a new song about the life of the late royal.
The 'Born This Way' singer is said to have repeated dreams about dying in a similar way to Diana, who was killed in a car crash in 1997 after being chased by paparazzi photographers.
"Gaga has always been absolutely fixated on Diana and sees herself as a 21st century incarnation of her," a source close to Gaga told the Daily Mail. "She knows she is almost as recognisable as Diana and is hounded by photographers and fans on the same level.
"Gaga has had dreams about dying the same way as her and has genuine fears that her fame could literally kill her, either in a chase or at the hands of crazies."
Gaga's music video for 2009 single 'Paparazzi' was allegedly inspired by Diana's life, and the 'You & I' singer previously described the iconic royal as a "martyr for fame".
Lady Gaga performed her Princess Diana song live for the first time in November in front of a select audience.
Last week it was reported Gaga is planning to embark on a two-year world tour of around 450 dates beginning in 2012.
