The Canadian star's single has ended Gotye's run at the summit following her Summertime Ball performance.

Carly Rae Jepsen's single 'Call Me Maybe' has been announced as the new US Billbaord Hot 100 number one.

The female star's song dethroned Gotye's 'Somebody That I Used To Know' with Maroon 5's latest release 'Payphone' making up the new top three.

Justin Bieber was quick to congratulate his protégée on her chart triumph admitting he was really proud of her success.

Taking to Twitter, he wrote: "Big Shoutout to @carlyraejepsen for getting her first #1 on BILLBOARD HOT 100!! SO PROUD!! CANADA STAND UP!!!"

One Direction achieved their highest single chart position for 'What Makes You Beautiful' after it climbed one space to number five.

Justin's 'Boyfriend' was also inside the top ten with Katy Perry and Rihanna also featuring in the latest rundown.
