Simon Cowell is apparently hopeful that he can convince Girls Aloud star to rejoin judging panel.

Cheryl Cole is on course to make a return to The X Factor, according to reports.

Simon Cowell is apparently seeking to rehire the Girls Aloud star to the judging panel in the UK – less than a year after sacking her from The X Factor USA.

Talks have yet to open between the pair, but Simon is hoping to convince Cheryl she is the right person for the role, according to the Daily Mirror.

“Cheryl is part of The X Factor family," a source said.

"Formal discussions have yet to take place but if she wants to come back she would be welcomed with open arms."

Earlier this year, Simon admitted that he would "100%" like to see Cheryl return to the programme.
