Sheffield Men Jailed For Child Kidnap

Two men have been locked up for kidnapping a young boy, when they bundled the 14 year old into a car in Sheffield.

29 year old Abdul Miah, and 20 year old Liban Mohammed, were found guilty of kidnap and blackmail at Sheffield Crown Court.

Liban Mohammed was sentenced to 11 years for kidnap and 10 years for blackmail and Abdal Miah got 17 years for kidnap and 15 years for blackmail. The sentences will run concurrently.

Miah and Mohammed kidnap the boy on Staniforth Road, Darnall, Sheffield in October, 2011.

The court heard how Miah and Mohammed both from Darnall bundled the boy into a car on 31 October and held him for six hours.

The teenager was hooded with a makeshift balaclava and threats were made to his father that the boy would have his arms, legs and head cut off if he did not pay a £40,000 ransom.

The kidnap and threats were reported to police and the men fled, knowing the police were onto them, leaving the boy in the countryside in Ringinglow, Sheffield.

Detectives traced the phone calls, which led them to the boyM where they were able to catch the men after finding their DNA a the scene.

Detective Chief Inspector Zaf Ali said: “This was a difficult protracted investigation. These men committed serious crimes, they put a young boy and his family through a terrifying ordeal and he feared for his life.

“Miah and Mohammed continued with their story and showed no remorse throughout the investigation and subsequent trial.”

Two other men on trial Anjam Shaffique, aged 30 from Darnall and Carlos Treazureaged27, from Norfolk Park were found not guilty of the same charges.
