Museum Evacuated Over WWII Bomb

The Royal Navy's carried out a controlled explosion on an old World War II bomb found at the Royal Submarine Museum in Gosport.

The live bomb was found in gravel delivered to the museum this morning (Monday 25th June), as part of work on HMS Alliance.

It's believed the World War II shell was dredged up from the seabed.

When it was delivered staff noticed a live Bofors shell sticking out of the gravel.

A Royal Navy bomb squad was dispatched to take the shell away for a controlled explosion.

The museum is now back open.
