Police investigating a fatal car fire in Chilworth near Southampton in the early hours of yesterday morning have identified the body as that of a man.
No formal identification has been completed yet and initial post mortem examination results have been inconclusive as to the cause of death.
Officers were called to Chilworth Drove by Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service at 1.30am on Tuesday (April 10) after firefighters who had been tackling the blaze became aware of a body inside the vehicle.
Detectives continue to investigate the cause of the fire and the circumstances leading up to it.
Despite public speculation on social networking sites, Hampshire Constabulary is not linking the death to the murder of Jamie Dack, 22, in Southampton.
Witnesses to the fire are urged to call 101 quoting Operation Wedgewood.
