Man Arrested After Shotgun Blast At Flats

A man's been arrested after a shotgun was fired through an entry door to a block of flats in Southampton.

Police say the 21-year-old local man was detained on Thursday night, April 4, on suspicion of being in possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life. He remains in custody.

The arrest follows an incident in which a shotgun is believed to have been fired through the entry door of a block of flats in Meggeson Avenue, Townhill Park, Southampton, just before midnight on Wednesday, April 3.

The shotgun was fired through a communal glass door within the building. No one was injured.

Detective Inspector Charlie Rimmer, who's leading the investigation said:

"We believe this was a focused, targeted incident.  Residents should be assured that there is nothing to indicate a wider threat to the local community."

As a precaution, police kept a marked police car and a visible police presence in the area overnight.

Police at Southampton Central would like to hear from any witnesses to the incident who have not already spoken to officers.  Anyone with information should contact Det Insp Rimmer at Southampton Central on 101.
