Man Hit By Bottle In Gosport Nightclub

Police are appealing for information following an assault at a nightclub in Gosport.

Between 1am and 1.15am on Sunday, February 26 the 18-year-old victim was in Emmas Nightclub, Gosport High Street. He was walking through the club with three friends and as he was walking, he passed by another male. As the victim turned he was hit in theface by a bottle that had been thrown from the bar area.

The victim attended the Queen Alexandra Hospital where he received stitches to his eye.  He also sustained severe swelling and bruising to his eye.

PC Robert Reason, said: “The victim had not been involved in any incident himself.  It is believed that the bottle may have been intended for someone else and it appeared that there was an argument ongoing between a group of men at the bar. It may havebeen that the bottle was thrown to hit the man that passed the victim prior to it hitting him.

“There were a large amount of people in the club and there would have been witnesses to the bottle being thrown.  I would urge anyone with any information to come forward and speak to us.”

A 25-year-old man from Gosport has been arrested in connection with this incident and released on police bail until March 22.

Anyone with any information should contact PC Reason at Fareham police station on 101, or call Crimestoppers, they charity, annonymously on 0800 555 111.
