Tour of Britain

The Tour of Britain is British Cycling’s premier road cycling event giving cycling fans the opportunity to see the world’s best teams and riders competing on their doorstep. It is the UK’s highest ranked professional cycle race and the country’s largest free-to-watch sporting event.

The Tour of Britain is Britain’s only international cycling stage race, which takes place annually across 8 days in September. In 2016 Glasgow will host the grand depart (Stage 1) of the race with the finish in Castle Douglas, Dumfries and Galloway on Sunday 4th September 2016.

The Tour of Britain attracts the world’s top cyclists, including Olympic and World Champions and Tour de France stage winners, to compete on British roads each September.

2016 presents an opportunity to introduce and promote the discipline of road race cycling to new audiences within Scotland as well as providing a world-class event for existing fans and enthusiasts of the sport. This document will outline an overall strategic direction for promoting the TOB to attract spectators to come along and wave off the riders

The event represents a fantastic opportunity for the city and for Scotland to capitalise on the success of this sport through the 2014 Commonwealth Games and the 2016 Olympics in order to attract spectators and to further the development of the sport. The road race is a free to attend event; we are looking for a commercial radio partner to play a pivotal role in promoting the event and influencing spectators to attend.

Sky Ride Glasgow

Sky Rides are big, fun events taking over a town or city centre so thousands of cyclists of all ages and abilities can ride safely together on a traffic-free route. They’re a great day out for families, with loads to do both on and off a bike.
This summer we’re set to reach our one millionth Sky Rider. It’s totally free to take part

Glasgow will host Skyride Glasgow on the 4th September 2016. Glasgow Life will work in partnership with British Cycling, Sky and EventScotland to plan and deliver a world-class event in an ambitious events city which is now ranked number 5 in the world for sport events.

Sky Ride Glasgow is a mass participation cycling event suited to all ages and abilities. In 2016 Sky Ride Glasgow will take place on the same day and use the same route as the Tour of Britain Grand Depart which will start in George Square and follow the route to the A77 towards Castle Douglas to the Finish of Stage 1 of 8.
