2 Dead In Glasgow Canal Crash

A man and woman have died following a road crash on Balmore Road in Glasgow.

The blue Ford Focus was being driven by a 21 year old man when it went out of control near to Skirsa Street.

The car left the carriageway before hitting a wall and railings and ending up in the Forth and Clyde Canal.

The 21-year-old driver and a 24-year-old female passenger were pronounced dead at the scene.

A 25-year-old woman and two men aged 25 and 24 years who were also passengers in the car were taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

The 25-year old woman's critically ill.

The 25-year-old man is said to be stable.

And the 24-year-old man escaped serious injury but was treated for shock.

A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

Sergeant Nicola Taylor at the Road Policing Complex at Helen Street, Govan said:

"Our enquires are continuing into the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident. It would appear that no other vehicle was involved and I would like to speak to anyone who either witnessed this crash or anyone who remembers seeing the vehicle travelling in Balmore Road just prior to the crash."
