Teenager Charged Over Whitley Bay Death

A teenager's been charged with manslaughter over the death of a man in Whitley Bay.

A 16-year-old boy has been charged with manslaughter and will appear before North Tyneside Court tomorrow.

It's after 40 year old Lee Devlin was found with serious head injuries on a walkway near the town's Metro station on Friday.

He was taken to North Tyneside Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Two teenage men arrested - a 19-year-old on suspicion of wounding with intent to commit GBH and an 18-year-old on suspicion of murder - remain on bail pending further enquiries.

A 16-year-old girl arrested on suspicion of GBH has also been bailed.

Police are continuing to investigate Lee's death, after a post mortem examination came back inconclusive.

Lee travelled by Metro from Howdon on Friday evening and arrived at Whitley Bay Metro station at 9.45pm. 

It's believed he was then outside the Metro station for a short time.   

Officers are asking for help from the public to piece together what happened after 9.45pm and when he was found with injuries just before 11pm.

Police have arrested two 16-year-olds following the murder of a 40-year-old man in North Tyneside.

Lee Devlin, from Whitley Bay, was found with head injuries near the town's Metro station on Friday.

Northumbria Police said a 16-year-old boy has been held on suspicion of murder and a 16-year-old girl on suspicion of grievous bodily harm.

Both are currently helping police with inquiries.

An 18-year-old previously arrested on suspicion of murder and a 19-year-old held on suspicion of wounding with intent have been bailed.

Two men aged 18 and 19 years, who had been arrested over the death of a man in North Tyenside, have been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Lee Devlin was found with serious injuries on Waterford Crescent in Whitley Bay at 10.57pm on Friday, September 12th, near the Metro station.

The 40 year old from Charles Avenue in Whitley Bay was taken to North Tyneside General Hospital and died a short time later.

Officers are continuing to investigate the cause and circumstances surrounding his death.

Lee travelled by metro from Howdon on Friday evening and arrived at Whitley Bay Metro station at 9.45pm.

Police are investigating the death of a man in North Tyneside.

Officers were called to Waterford Crescent in Whitley Bay at 10.57pm on Friday, September 12th. 

They found a 40-year-old unconscious man with head injuries lying on the ground, next to a walkway near Whitley Bay Metro station. 

He was taken to North Tyneside General Hospital and died a short time later.

Officers are carrying out enquiries to establish how the man came to sustain his injuries.  It is believed he may have been assaulted.

They are appealing for witnesses, anyone who was in the area of Waterford Crescent or near Whitley Bay Metro Station, who may have seen or heard anything suspicious is asked to contact police straightaway.

Police urgently need to speak to anyone who was in the relevant area  between 10.30pm and 11pm who may have any information which can help their enquiries.

Two men aged 18 and 19 have been arrested in connection with the incident and are currently in police custody.

A post mortem examination will be carried out this evening.

Police are carrying out enquiries in the area and additional officers are on patrol to reassure the community.
