Man And Woman Stabbed In South Shields

A man and a woman have been taken to hospital after being stabbed in South Shields.

Police were called at 2:42am to Simonside Hall in South Shields to a report of a stabbing.

Officers were accompanied by special firearms support.

The victims, a man who had an injury to his head injury and a woman with minor injuries, were both taken to hospital.

Officers continue to search for the person responsible, who it's thought is known to the victims.

Chief Inspector Sloane said:
"Such incidents are rare, but residents in Simonside Hall will have seen a number of police officers in their street in the early hours of this morning.

Extra officers will be in the area for the rest of the day providing extra support and reassurance to the community."

The offender is described as a white male, aged about 30 years old, and wearing a grey tracksuit and dark blue hoody.
