A woman has been raped in an alleyway in Flixton.

It happened in the middle of the afternoon on Tuesday.

The 39 year old was walking between Moorside Road and Carrsvale Avenue when a man approached her and pushed her to the ground.

He is described as a black man in his late 50s and of stocky build. He has jet black eyes and a one inch, horizontal scar on the right side of his chin. He is also described as having a cleft lip.

Police have increased patrols in the area and are carrying out house to house inquiries.

Detective Sergeant Alison Barber from Trafford's Serious Sexual Offences Unit said "This was an awful attack on a lone woman in the middle of the day and she has obviously been left deeply distressed by this incident. Specially trained officers are supporting her to try and help her through this ordeal.

"A team of dedicated detectives is investigating and we are doing all we can to find out who is responsible and take this dangerous man off our streets."
