Gangs: 50 Cent's Message

Rapper 50 Cent has told Capital East Midlands young people should NOT be getting involved in Gangs.

We caught up with 50 Cent on the back of our three month investigation into gangs in the East Midlands. We were told there are 8 main criminal gangs operating across Derby and Nottingham and that their main business is drugs.

Unofficial stats show there are children as young as 10 years old in Nottingham being used as drug mules, but young people in the cities told us they know kids as young as 8 years old going around town saying they're gang members because they think it is cool.

The main reason we were told young people aspire or end up being involved in gang activities is because they think it's an easy way to make money and that they get a sense of belonging from the gang because many come from broken families.

We put all this to 50 Cent who was in the Midlands on the day our investigation went to air, he had this to say:
