Kids as young as 8 found carrying weapons in school

Almost a thousand weapons have been confiscated from school children across the UK in the past three years.

31 police forces replied to the freedom of information request; in Leicestershire knives, knuckle dusters and an axe were found and in Derbyshire a meat cleaver, two guns and screwdriver were confiscated.

Jane's son Luke was stabbed to death at school in Lincolnshire when he was just 14:

'It just seems to be becoming more the norm and that's really sad.

'You hope the message has got out in the last ten years, look at those figures, it's just really frightening isn't it?'.


Pair died from stab wounds
Post mortem examinations show a man and woman found dead in Nottinghamshire on Monday both died from stab wounds.

They were discovered by detectives at a house in Hardwick Road East in Worksop, formal identification is expected later

A 28-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder remains in hospital receiving treatment.


Pearson chuffed with title win
Leicester Manager Nigel Pearson has paid tribute to his staff after the Foxes won the Championship title last night.

He says they created a very good atmosphere for the players:

'To be crowned champions with two games to go is a phenomenal achievement for us in what is, a year in year out, tough league.'

Leicester had already secured promotion a few weeks ago.


Violent attacks drop
The price of alcohol going up in bars and clubs is being linked to a fall in the number of people being violently attacked.

The figure for last year is down 32,000 on 2012.

To cut violence in the East Midlands doormen in Nottingham use cocaine torches to trace drugs on people on a night out and any confiscated drugs are put in special drug boxes in Melton; police reckon drug use causes a rise in violence.


Offensive language sprayed in Derbyshire
Racist graffitti has been sprayed on a children's play area in Derbyshire.

Police have told Smooth Radio that offensive language has appeared on park benches, litter bins and garages in Dronfield.
