College holds classes on forced marriage
Derby College have told Capital they'd been willing to help other colleges tackle forced marriage and 'honour' based violence after starting awareness sessions themselves.

They've been working with Jasvinder Sanghera, from Karma Nirvana, to make students and staff aware of the issues.

Helen Jefferson is the Assistant Principal Learner at Derby College, she told capitalfm.com why they're having the sessions:

'To look at what the signs may be, look at what to pick up on, in terms of the behaviour of any of students which may provoke a concern.

'So, look at absences around college and looking into the reasons for that.

'I mean, students can be absent for a whole range of reasons and that may not be the reason but as long as we know we've got an avenue to explore, in terms of getting advice, then that's something we welcome.'

Coal mine closure 'crazy'
Councillors say shutting a coal mine in Nottinghamshire would be crazy and affect youth unemployment.

If Thoresby Colliery in Edwinstowe was shut, 600 jobs would be at risk.

Councillor Dianna Meale sez the impact on the community would be devastating:

'The thing about the coal industry is that it has provided employment for young people.

'As an industry it trains people, so it's not that it's any old job, actually it's a very skilled job and has endured over time.'

Last week UK Coal told Capital that low prices and a strong pound have had a huge impact on their business; a consultaion on the plans has started.
