A North Yorkshire couple have been badly injured after an explosion inside their caravan.
The 55-year-old man and a 51-year-old woman were badly burned in the blast, which totally destroyed their caravan at a farm near Goathland, yesterday.
The man was taken to hospital in Newcastle with severe burns, while the woman was taken to James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough, also with burns.
Both come from Whitby.
North Yorkshire Police and the North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service are investigating the incident, which happened at around 6.45am.
Police said the explosion involved a touring caravan which had been parked at a farm near Goathland. "The caravan was completely destroyed as a result of an explosion inside the vehicle,'' a spokesman said.
"A joint police and fire service investigation has begun to establish the cause of the explosion.
"However, at this stage it is not being treated as suspicious and no-one else is being sought in connection with the incident.
"We are not expecting to be in a position to give any further details about the cause of the damage until later this week.''
