Electric Trains come to Wales
We're being promised faster journey times between Cardiff and London as Electric Trains come to Wales in 2017.
The government's confirmed the plans which will cost £740 million and reduce journey times by around 20 minutes.
The Transport Secretary also revealed that the south Wales valley lines may also get electric trains saying the Government had established ``that a strong high-level case may exist for electrifying some of the Valley lines north of Cardiff''.
He said the Department for Transport would now work with the Welsh Assembly Government "to develop a business case for the electrification of the Cardiff Valley lines''.
Mr Hammond added "This is good news for jobs, passengers and the economy. Our decision to buy a new fleet of trains and electrify new lines will allow rail passengers to benefit from massive improvements to journey times, more seats and more reliable services.''
It was first thought electrification would be extended as far as Swansea but there are no plans to do this at the moment.
