It’s a sad day for Yorkshire, as five of our fallen soldiers are being repatriated later.
The troops, including five from 3 Battalion, The Yorkshire Regiment, died when a bomb exploded under their vehicle in Helmand province two weeks ago today.
Yesterday thousands of front-line soldiers in Afghanistan held vigils for their fallen comrades
20 year old Corporal Jake Hartley from Huddersfield,
20 year old Private Anthony Frampton from Huddersfield,
19 year old Private Christopher Kershaw from Bradford,
20 year old Private Daniel Wade from Warrington,
21 year old Private Daniel Wilford from Huddersfield,
and 33 year old Sgt Nigel Coupe from Lytham St. Annes were killed when their Warrior armoured vehicle was hit.
The five younger men were from 3 Battalion while Sgt Coupe was from the 1 st Battalion, The Duke of Lancaster's Regiment.
All six soldiers were based at Battlesbury Barracks in Warminster, Wiltshire.
The bodies of the soldiers are expected to be flown into RAF Brize Norton today.
