Police investigating after a body was found by workmen who were renovating a house in Whitby say the death is not suspicious.
Officers were called to the derelict property in Broomfield Terrace on Saturday afternoon following the reports that a body had been found.
Police say the found a body appeared to have been in the property for some time and were treating the death as unexplained.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesman has now said:
"Police enquiries have shown that it is believed to be the body of a local man.
"There is nothing to suggest that there are any suspicious circumstances at this time and a file is being prepared on behalf of the coroner.
"We are not expecting to be in a position to release his identity for some time.''
