Police are looking into a report of a serious sexual assault on a teenage tourist from Japan in the Netherthorpe area of Sheffield.
It happened around 7.30pm on Friday, 24th August, when an 18-year-old Japanese tourist was followed by a man on Hammond Street/ Bellefield Street.
The man allegedly snatched this woman's handbag. She ran after the man into a nearby wooded area.
The woman was then allegedly subjected to a serious sexual assault by the same man, which has left her extremely traumatised and shaken.
The man is described as black, in his twenties, approximately 1.8 metres tall, medium build with short dark hair and no facial hair.
He was wearing a royal blue hooded jacket and dark trousers or jeans.
Police would like to reassure the public that this is an isolated incident and extra patrols have now been put in place in the Netherthorpe area.
Police urgently want to speak to anyone with information about this alleged incident or who believes they may have witnessed or heard anything is asked to contact South Yorkshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 1029 of 24 August 2012.
