A Selby man has appeared in court this morning, accused of attempting to murder two teenagers, who were mowed down by a van whilst camping.
Benjamin Allerton made a brief appearance before York magistrates accused of the attempted murders of a 16-year-old boy and a 13-year-old girl.
The teenagers were camping in a field by the River Ouse when they were struck by the vehicle on Sunday.
Officers were called to the scene near the village of Barlby at 3.55am.
The teenagers were camping in a field between York Road and the river.
The 16-year-old boy was seriously injured in the incident, while his younger companion received less serious injuries.
Allerton, from Millgate, Selby, spoke only to confirm his name, age and address, during a 10-minute hearing.
He was remanded in custody and will next appear at York Crown Court on March 19.
