Rotherham Double Murder Charge

A 70 year old man from South Yorkshire has been charged with murdering his wife and daughter.

Police were called to a bungalow in Wath-upon-Dearne, near Rotherham, on Monday where they found the bodies of 67 year old Jean Redfern, and her daughter, Sarah Redfern, 33.

South Yorkshire Police said a post-mortem examination has shown that Jean Redfern suffocated and Sarah Redfern died from severe head injuries.

Peter Redfern was arrested on Monday following the discovery of the bodies at his home on Sandygate.

Redfern has now been charged with two counts of murder and will appear before magistrates in Rotherham later on Wednesday.
