A 43 year old man's been arrested after a 27-year-old was found injured on the street in Armley.

Officers were called to reports of a man in distress at around 9.20pm on Monday evening.

He had received serious head injuries and was treated by paramedics before being pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently in custody.

Detective Superintendent Nick Wallen, of West Yorkshire Police Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, said on Tuesday:

"We are speaking with the dead man's family who are understandably distraught about his death.

We are not yet in a position to release his identity publicly. A post mortem examination is due to take place this afternoon to establish the cause of death.

"We are treating his death as murder and a number of scenes in the vicinity are being forensically examined. We are trying to build up a picture of the circumstances surrounding the victim's death and of his movements earlier in the evening in the time leading up to him being found in Back Moorfield Terrace.

We would like to hear from anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in the area or who has any information that could assist the investigation.''
