Man Held Over Barnsley Stabbing
Detectives are quizzing a man on suspicion of murder after a 36-year-old was stabbed to death during a fight near Barnsley.
Philip Alan Smith was found stabbed in the village of Thurnscoe, between Doncaster and Barnsley, at about 4.30pm on Saturday.
Officers found Mr Smith, of Stotfold Drive, Thurnscoe, on Church Street, near the junction with Houghton Road, and he was taken to Barnsley District General Hospital where he later died from his injuries.
A post mortem examination established Mr Smith died as a result of being stabbed.
Detective Superintendent Andy Thompson, who is leading the investigation, said: "Extensive house-to-house and forensic inquiries have been taking place to establish the facts in this case. I still wish to hear from anyone who has any information or who witnessed the disturbance in Thurnscoe on Saturday afternoon."
One man was arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody.
Three other men arrested on suspicion of violent disorder have been released on bail pending further inquiries.
