Man Dead And Young Girl Injured After Being Hit By Train In South Yorkshire

A man and young child have been struck by a train in South Yorkshire.

It happened near to Adwick rail station earlier this afternoon.

A British Transport Police spokesperson said: "The incident was reported at 12.28pm and also saw Yorkshire Ambulance Service and the Yorkshire Air Ambulance in attendance.

"The child, a girl, was injured and has been airlifted to Sheffield Children's hospital. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Officers are currently working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident, and to establish the identities of both the man and the girl.

"The train involved was the 10:35 King's Cross to Leeds service.

"Anyone who witnessed the incident, or who has any information which can help police, is asked to call BTP on 0800 40 50"
