Leeds Rhinos captain Jamie Peacock is among a whole host of sporting stars named in the Queen's New Year's honours list.

Leeds Rhinos captain Jamie Peacock is among a whole host of sporting stars named in the Queen's New Year's honours list.

The 34-year-old prop forward - who also captains England - is awarded the MBE for services to rugby league.

Meanwhile, legendary former cricket umpire Dickie Bird - who's from Barnsley - has been handed the OBE for services to sport and charity.

Away from the sporting arena, North Yorkshire woman Janet Flint has been awarded the MBE for her community work over the last 30 years, while Irma Verslyn's been appointed OBE for services to black and minority communities in Leeds.
