A fire which tore through a flat in Cantley on Christmas Eve leaving a man and a dog dead is being treated as suspicious, South Yorkshire Police have revealed.
Firefighters from Doncaster and Edlington were called to the property in Middleham Road, Cantley, at around 3.20am on Saturday.
The victim, who is yet to be formally identified but believed to be a 40-year-old man from the local area, was found after crews forced their way into the premises to tackle the flames.
A force spokesman said detectives were investigating the incident.
"The incident is being treated as suspicious with officers keeping an open mind about the circumstances of the man's death,'' he added.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
