The 18 year old was at a party on Pleasant View in Cudworth on Friday night, when he suffered major burns to his body.
Steven died from his injuries in hospital on Sunday night.
Six people were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder on Saturday; three men, aged between 19 years old and 39 years old and three teenagers aged between 16 years old and 17 years old, all from Barnsley.
The 16-year-old female was released because there wasn’t enough evidence, the five others have been bailed.
We are waiting for a post mortem to find out how he died.
Steven's family said: "Steven had just turned 18 and was just starting out in life. Kevin and Jackie, Steven's father and Stepmother and Bernadette his mother can not describe the loss they all feel at this time. Steven was a very caring and lovely young man and will be missed by everyone that knows him."
