Two In Court For Tonypandy Murder

Two men have appeared in court charged with the murder of a 42-year-old in Tonypandy.

Wayne Letherby died after the attack on De Winton Street on Friday.

Jamie Leyshon and Dean Doggett, who are both 26 and from the Rhondda, appeared at Pontypridd Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday morning.

The pair spoke only to confirm their names, dates of birth and addresses.

South Wales Police say a man and a woman, who were also arrested in connection, have been bailed pending further enquiries.

Detective Chief Inspector Ceri Hughes, who is leading the investigation, says:

“Although we have charged two individuals for this murder, we are still appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident and may have vital information, to contact us – especially if they were in the area of De Winton Street in the late evening of Friday 17 April.

“South Wales Police is grateful for the support we have received from members of the public so far, which has assisted with our enquiries.

“However, there are clearly a number of witnesses who were in the area at the time who are yet to come forward, such as Taxi drivers, people using the local takeaways, and the De Winton Hotel and Pandy Inn pubs – and would urge such persons to please contact the police.”

Leyshon and Doggett are due to make their first Crown Court appearance on Thursday morning.
