Police have made arrests following burglaries at two Chichester jewellers in East Street at around 2am today (Wednesday 7 March).
Police were alerted to a break-in at Gold Arts, after a member of the public reported seeing men hammering at the window with sledgehammers. Shortly after the alarm at Ernest Jones was activated.
PC Ali Hutchings said: "Police arrived on the scene within a minute of the report and an immediate search was launched. A car was seen to make off down Marsh Lane towards the A259, which stopped at Drayton. One man stayed in the car and was arrested and a second man was tracked through the field by a dog unit before being arrested in the grounds of White Whyke House.
"This is an ongoing investigation and officers are continuing to gather evidence. I would like to thank the quick thinking members of the public who called police immediately on seeing the break-in. Anyone with information who has yet to make contact is asked to call us or Crimestoppers as soon as possible."
A 31-year-old man from Havant, Hampshire, and a 25-year-old man from Chichester have been arrested on suspicion of burglary and are currently in custody awaiting interview.
