Thieves Steal Six Luxury Cars In 48 Hours
Hampshire police have started a major search for a gang of thieves who stole more than £170,000 worth of luxury cars over the 4-day Diamond Jubilee weekend.
Six were taken including BMWs, Range Rovers and a Mercedes worth £54,000.
Thieves broke into five homes in West End, Chandlers Ford and Southampton and stole the keys while the owners were asleep.
Other items were also taken including Laptops, Iphones, Ipads, jewellery, watches (*Breitling wristwatch), a set of Titleist golf clubs and an electric golf cart.
The first 3 burglaries are all believed to have been committed in the early hours of Friday 1st June 2012 in the West End and Chandlers Ford areas:
* Chalvington Road, Chandlers Ford - A black Land Rover Range Rover Sport value £25,000
* Holly Gardens, West End - A black Mercedes CLS value £54,000
* Lime Gardens, West End - A black Range Rover Sport Estate value £25,000
Two further burglaries occurred in the Upper Shirley area of Southampton in the early hours of Sunday 3rd June 2012
* Fuchsia Gardens, Southampton -. White Ford Focus valued at £29,000
* Atherley Court, Southampton - Grey BMW 1 series and a white BMW 7 series valued at £40,000
It is believed that at least 3 offenders were involved in the theft of the 2 x BMW vehicles from Atherley Court.
In each case, the victims and other family members were asleep within their own homes when the burglaries were committed.
The investigating officer DC Cox says: "This should have been a long weekend of celebration, instead, a number of victims have had their homes violated and property of a valuable and personal nature stolen. Most of the premises were entered by forcing the front door or reaching through the letterbox to pull down inner door handles. Residents are asked to fully secure doors at night and to remove car keys from obvious view".
Police are appealing for any information in relation to this series of burglaries and any information that may lead to the recovery of the vehicles and other stolen property.
