Thieves Steal Loads Of Drain Covers

There's a warning for drivers around Eastleigh and Chandlers Ford to be careful, after thieves stole loads of drain covers.
At least 17 have been stolen in the space of a week.
Most happened sometime between last Monday, June 13 and Tuesday 14 in the Broadland and Desborough Road area of Eastleigh. Two more have also since been reported as having been taken from Porteous Crescent and one in Claudius
Gardens in Chandlers Ford on Thursday June 16 or Friday, June 17.
The cost to replace them has so far come to more than £1000 however the main concern is the hazard that is caused once they are taken. PC Robert Thomas from Easteigh’s Safer Neighbourhood Team said:
“These thieves are almost certainly taking these drain covers to sell for scrap as they are made of Iron. However they are not thinking about or do not care about the danger they are causing. Someone could easily do themselves a serious injury because one of these covers is missing and they don’t notice until it is too late.”
“We want to catch those responsible and I would urge anyone who does know who is being the thefts or saw anyone removing the covers to contact me as soon as possible.”
Officers would also like to hear if there are any others that have been removed that they aren’t yet aware about.
Anyone with information is asked to call PC Thomas at Eastleigh Police Station on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
