Skyride Returns To Southampton

Cyclists will have a few hours of freedom on Southampton's roads, as the free Sky Ride event returns.
A number of roads will be shut to all traffic between 11am and 3pm. You can see the route and all the road closures here.
Police officers will be on duty at the Sky Ride to hand out safety advice and high visibility rucksack covers to ensure that cyclists always maximise their visibility to other road users.
Officers from Hampshire Constabulary's Roads Policing Unit work closely with British Cycling and other cycling organisations and retailers to try and reduce casualties on the roads and keep cyclists safe.
Sergeant Darren Ord, who leads the force's Steer Clear cycle safety campaign, said:
"As we've seen over the past few weeks of lovely sunny weather, traffic on the roads has increased and with it the risk to cyclists.
"A very simple message which stands repeating is always wear a cycle helmet. I know it can be really tempting not to whilst it is so hot, but it's the most important piece of kit you can wear and it can save your life."
