Serious Sex Assault In Southampton

Detectives investigating a report of serious sexual assault in Winchester Street in Southampton, have released CCTV images of the suspect.

At around 2.45am on Wednesday, September 21, a 21-year-old woman was assaulted by a man she had met earlier that evening.

The woman had been on a night out with friends in the city. She was standing outside Subway in London Road while her friends bought food, when she began talking to a man.

Her friends went home, and the woman then began walking home. The man walked with her.

While in Winchester Street the man subjected the woman to a serious sexual assault.

The woman immediately left the man, approached a nearby ambulance car, and was taken to Southampton General Hospital.

She did not suffer any injury as a result of the incident, but was taken to hospital as a precaution.

The man is described as:

Mixed race
23 years old
Around 5ft 10ins tall
Wearing dark coloured clothing, including a body warmer, t-shirt, jeans and a hat
Wearing an earring and a bracelet

Detective Constable Anton Gaita said,

“The CCTV images we have are taken in London Road and show the man we would like to speak to in connection with this incident.

"Do you know who he is?

"If you think you can help please contact the police.

"This was a serious incident and the woman involved has been left very shaken up; we are appealing for your help in identifying this man.”
