Detectives are appealing for information as they investigate how a man received serious head injuries on the Isle of Wight.
Police were called to Lake Green Road in Lake near Sandown shortly after 11pm on Saturday, October 22, 2011.
A 43-year-old man from Sandown, Isle of Wight was found at the scene with his injuries, which were not believed to be life threatening. He was taken to hospital.
Initial enquiries led to suggestions that this man may have fallen over by himself during the evening or that another person could have been involved.
A 41-year-old man from Lancashire was arrested in Sandown on the island at 9am on Sunday, October 23, 2011 on suspicion of assault. He was taken into custody, questioned by officers, and bailed until December 7, 2011 pending further enquiries.
Detective Constable Jessica Fleming of Isle of Wight CID said:
“Although a man was arrested and bailed at the weekend, we are keeping a completely open mind about what happened, and exploring all possibilities in our enquiries.
“There could be an innocent but unfortunate explanation to how this man was injured. However, police also need to examine whether a crime has taken place while the exact circumstances remain unclear at this early stage of the investigation.
“The 43-year-old man had gone out on Saturday evening in Sandown and Lake during the hours before police were called.
"We’re appealing for information from anyone who saw a disagreement or disorder involving two or more men in the Sandown
and Lake area on Saturday evening or who remembers seeing a man fall over in the street on the same night.”
