A police investigation's started after shots were fired at the door of a house near the Army's Administration Headquarters in Edinburgh.
People inside the house at Hillside Road in the Craigiehall area of Edinburgh told police they heard loud bangs coming from the front of their property just after midnight.
When police arrived, they found the front of the door was damaged - no-one was injured.
Officers said they are keen to speak to anyone who may have heard these shots being fired or may have seen any suspicious vehicles or people in the area.
Detective Sergeant Neil Spowart, of Lothian and Borders Police, said: "Thankfully no-one was injured in this incident. However, it is nevertheless very concerning.
This is a quiet residential area and we believe that local residents would notice anything untoward or any strangers in the area before or after the incident."
