Celtic completed the deadline-day signings of Ryan Christie and Jozo Simunovic as Virgil van Dijk finally left Glasgow.

Christie signed a four-year deal but will initially be loaned back to Inverness while Simunovic completed his move from Dinamo Zagreb shortly before the midnight deadline.

Van Dijk earlier moved to Southampton in a transfer that could ultimately net Celtic a total of £13million.

Midfield playmaker Christie made two trips to Celtic Park either side of an afternoon training session with the Scotland Under-21 squad before his move was finalised.

The 20-year-old will not join his new team-mates until January at the earliest though after being loaned back to injury-hit Inverness. Celtic had an initial bid of a reported £500,000 rejected before further talks secured a deal on Monday morning.

Celtic had agreed a fee with Dinamo Zagreb for 21-year-old centre-back Simunovic ahead of deadline day, which includes add-ons and a significant sell-on percentage, and the Croatia Under-21 international signed a five-year contract.

But there was no striker arriving at Celtic Park despite the Hoops loaning Serbia forward Stefan Scepovic to Getafe on a season-long deal after an underwhelming year in Parkhead which yielded six goals in 26 appearances.

Defender Eoghan O'Connell was another Celtic player to move on loan, joining Oldham until New Year's Day.

Inverness used some of their Christie fee to bring in two loan forwards from England. Swindon's Miles Storey, 21, and 20-year-old Charlton striker Tobi Sho-Silva have joined until January.

Dundee United also signed two loan players from England as well as offloading two players to Scottish clubs.

Australia international striker Adam Taggart, 22, has signed from Fulham until January while 19-year-old Reading midfielder Aaron Kuhl will also join. Both players will link up after international commitments - the latter is with the England Under-20 squad.

Robbie Muirhead joined Partick Thistle on loan until January 4 while Henri Anier has moved to Hibernian for the season.

Thistle later sold defender Jack Hendry to Wigan for an undisclosed fee after the 20-year-old made just five first-team appearances.

Wigan boss Gary Caldwell said: "There were other clubs interested so we're delighted he has chosen to come to us.''

Hibs also signed Islam Feruz on a season-long loan deal from Chelsea. Feruz, who will be 20 later this month, started out at Celtic and has played for Scotland at several youth levels, including the under-21s.

Rangers loaned out two midfielders with first-team experience until January. Robbie Crawford joined Ladbrokes Championship rivals Alloa and Andy Murdoch signed for League One side Cowdenbeath.

Left-back Kevin McHattie swapped Hearts for Kilmarnock after being allowed to move on after more than 80 appearances for the Gorgie club. The 22-year-old signed a three-year deal.

Killie boss Gary Locke told the club's official website: "He is a very talented young left-back and we had to fight off competition from some really big clubs to sign him.''

Another young player leaving Hearts is Gary Oliver, who has joined Queen of the South for an undisclosed fee. The 20-year-old scored two goals in 25 appearances, although he only made one league start.

St Johnstone could make a signing after the deadline after long-time target Danny Swanson cancelled his Coventry contract.

Motherwell fended off competition from Sky Bet Championship sides to sign Manchester United Under-21s captain Liam Grimshaw, who joins on loan until January.

The 20-year-old central midfield player can also play in defence and manager Ian Baraclough claimed he would add "steel'' to their team.

Well loaned young full-back David Ferguson to Alloa while Ross County signed 24-year-old goalkeeper Gary Woods on loan from Leyton Orient.

Kilmarnock did not push through a move for Gavin Gunning but the former Motherwell and Dundee United defender could sign after the deadline.
