Two people have been arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with a death in Holywell.
A 32-year-old man and a 57-year-old woman are currently helping police with their enquiries.
At 11.09am on Monday 4th of February, police received a report of a car crashing into a lamp post on Bertram Place in Shiremoor.
Officers attended and the occupant of the car, a woman, was taken to the RVI, where she remains.
Her condition is not currently described as life threatening.
Enquiries at the scene of the crash - involving items found in the car - led officers to an address in Holywell, Northumberland.
Officers attended the address at noon and forced entry.
The body of a woman was found inside the house.
Both scenes have now been examined by forensic scientists and a Post Mortem will be carried out in due course.
Northumberland Area Command Chief Superintendent Dianne Winship said:
"We are at the earliest stages of an investigation into today's events.
We have yet to formally identify the woman in the house and it would not be appropriate to give any details of her until this is done.
Local residents can be reassured that we will have extra officers in the area not only as part of the investigation but also to address any concerns people may have.
We believe that the woman in the car and the woman found in the house were known to each other and we do not believe that there is any wider danger to the public."
Anyone with information about the death or the crash is asked to contact police on the 101 non-emergency number.
