The latest NEET figures show the region has seen the second biggest rise in the number young people not in education, employment or training.
Nationally the number is down, but here it has gone up by 2 thousand on this time last year.
At the end of 2011 there were 55 thousand 16 to 24 year old NEETS and there are now 57 thousand.
Only London saw a bigger increase.
