A 15-year-old boy has drowned in a reservoir in Lancashire.
Emergency services were called to Yarrow Valley Country Park, in Chorley, on Sunday following a report that a youngster was in difficulties in the water.
His body was later recovered from the scene at Birkacre Brow at about 11.30pm, Lancashire Constabulary said.
Police named the boy as Thomas Barton, 15, from Coppull, Lancashire.
A police spokeswoman said: ``We received a report at around 7.30pm yesterday evening to say that a young boy had got into difficulties in water at Birkacre Brow in Yarrow Valley Country Park.
``A rescue operation was launched involving a number of emergency services but sadly a body was recovered from the water shortly afterwards at around 11.30pm last night.''
Detective Inspector Jo Keay said, ``Despite the best efforts of all the people involved in the rescue operation, sadly, a young boy has lost his life and it goes to illustrate the dangers of swimming in open water.
``This is an absolutely tragic accident and our thoughts are with Thomas's family at this incredibly sad time.''
