A man has been arrested after a Salford woman was stabbed to death.

The 32 year old woman was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident at a house in Weaste, Salford.

A man at the house in Cumbrae Gardens suffered serious stab injuries to his arm and was taken to hospital where he is in a stable condition and has since been arrested.

Police were called to the address at about 6.40pm on Tuesday.

The 38 year old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody for questioning, police said.

A post-mortem examination on the woman will take place later on Wednesday.

Detective Chief Inspector Ben Ewart, of Salford CID, said: “We are in the early stages of investigating this incident in which a woman has tragically died.

“It is natural that a death in the community like this will cause real concern among nearby residents. However, we want to reassure everyone that we believe this to be an entirely isolated incident and there is no wider threat to the community.

“We have got extra patrols in the Weaste area and I would urge anyone with concerns to approach any of our officers.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to appeal to anyone who saw or heard anything unusual on Cumbrae Gardens yesterday, or previously, to get in touch with detectives. Your call could help us establish the exact circumstances surrounding this woman's death.”
