West Midlands police have charged five teenagers on suspicion of attempted murder after a man was found stabbed in the street in Birmingham.

Officers were called to Belgrave Middleway at 1am on Saturday the 28th of April where they found the man with multiple stab wounds. He was taken to hospital in a very serious condition and remains critical after emergency surgery.

Detective Inspector Ian Ingram, from the force's Criminal Investigation Department, said: "This was a nasty incident and are thoughts remain with the victim who is in a critical condition in hospital. We have spoken to a number of witnesses and we are encouraged by the progress we have made in relation to our investigation but continue to appeal for anyone with information to come forward. The motive for the attack remains unclear at this time but I can confirm that we are treating this as attempted murder."

"I do not underestimate the impact this crime will have on local people but I would like to reassure the community that despite this incident, Birmingham is a safe city," added Det Insp Ingram.
