A man has been jailed for six and half years after admitting sexually abusing a child at his home in Scarborough.
34 year old Duncan Byrne from North Marine Road in Scarborough, pleaded guilty to three charges of sexual activity with a child on 13 October 2011.
He abused the four year old at his home in Scarborough between 1st March 2011 and 14th April 2011.
Byrne was sentenced at York Crown Court and also ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for life. He was banned from working with children for life.
DC Laura Carroll from North Yorkshire Police's Protecting Vulnerable Persons Unit said: "I would like to highlight the bravery which the victim and their family have displayed since their lives were turned upside down by Byrne.
"Duncan Byrne has admitted that he is a child sex offender and that, together with the consequences he now faces, will follow him round for the rest of his life. To betray the trust of a child in the way he did is abhorrent and beneath contempt.
"I hope today's outcome gives other victims of sexual abuse the confidence to come forward and report their ordeal to the police."
